My name is Chris Singer and I grew up in a small town in New Jersey named Kinnelon. My mother moved to the the New Jersey coast once I graduated, however, so I now live in a town named Red Bank. It's also a small town, but it's much more densely populated than Kinnelon. I’m currently in my last year of college, and my goal is to find a job somewhere in either Colorado, Arizona, Utah or California when I graduate. I've always loved the west coast and I feel like there's a lot more to do out there. I also really want to experience something new.
I want to work in either analytics, marketing, human resource, sales or management. One of the best things about a business degree is that it is versatile. You can go into numerous fields when you graduates because you've developed skills in so many different areas. I love problem-solving and finding out why things are the way they are. I also love finding solutions for the future. The field of business has always fascinated me, and I had a pretty good idea that I wanted to study it when I was younger.
This photo on the left was taken in January of 2020 in Arizona. My mom, my brother and I decided to take a trip out west since we hadn't taken a trip together in many years. We also wanted to show my brother another part of the country since he hadn't traveled very much. This photo is from a train ride that we took into the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely beautiful when there's snow on the ground!
One of my favorite things to do is travel. I've been to 38 states and my goal is to get to all 50 at some point. I've been on two road trips with my friends and driven from coast to coast (New Jersey to California). Travel is important to me because I think it's important to step out of your comfort zone. This world is very diverse in landscape and culture. Stepping outside of what's familiar to you is essential if you want to grow and learn more.
Besides travel, another interest of mine is hiking. Forunately, these two interests often intertwine. I first got into hiking when I was in the Boy Scouts. We used to go on a night hike where we would hike through the woods in early spring with headlamps. We went on several hikes throughout my scouting experience including Harriman State Park in New York and Gettysburg Pennsylvania.
After I finished Boy Scouts, I made sure to continue hiking. Some of my favorite places to hike now are the Rockies, Sedona and Zion. I was lucky that I was able to hike through these places on my road trip. I also go to college in the finger lakes region, so I've made sure to go hiking there. I've done several hikes in Ithaca and went to Watkins Glen once.
One of my favorite hikes I've ever done is the Narrows in Zion National Park. On the hike, you travel between two canyons as the water runs below your feet (you should definitely bring water shoes if you go). The scenary is astonishingly beautiful, you feel like you're on another planet. Zion is in Utah, and I certainly plan on going back to it some day.
